The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, supporting reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts. DOC is seeking to recruit two (2) part time psychologists. Under general supervision, with latitude for independent judgment and decision-making, selected candidates will perform professional work in the field of psychology, through clinical interviewing and/or through the selection, administration and interpretation of standard group and individual test of personality development and intellectual capacity. The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to: • Evaluating individuals’ (Uniform Employees) emotional and intellectual functioning • Maintaining clinical records and files in accordance with SOAP standards • Preparing written reports of psychological findings for inclusion in clinical records and case files, etc. • Consulting with psychiatrists, social workers, judges, and other relevant stakeholders regarding diagnoses, prognoses, and case disposition recommendations • Participating in psychological and multidisciplinary staff conferences • Preparing case documentation and written summaries • Testifying in court or other administrative proceedings when required. Preferred Skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to maintain professional objectivity and sound clinical judgment • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities • Ability to work effectively in high pressure, fast-paced, and evolving environments • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills • Exceptional attention to detail • Demonstrated professional, discretion, and empathy when working with sensitive matters • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and respond to time- sensitive matters
