Scientific Systems is looking to fill a Senior Software Engineer position in the domain of Autonomous Vehicles and Uncrewed Systems. The successful applicant will be responsible for developing software for advanced AI/ML programs relating to autonomous flight systems and crewed-uncrewed collaboration.
Essential Functions:
• Architect and develop advanced software for multi-vehicle autonomy for complex, contested environments.
• Provide relevant technical expertise as part of a team to design, implement, and test autonomy software systems for embedded uncrewed multi-vehicle autonomy.
• Support presentation of technical results to internal and external customers.
• Support integration of existing work into an unified software architecture.
• This role may require occasional travel to remote test events.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a United States DOD Security Clearance.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Math, Statistics, Engineering, Physical Science, Computer Science, Operations Research, Data Science
• 4+ years of experience in software development/R&D of AI for Robotics, Machine Learning, Robot Planning/Optimization Techniques, and/or Autonomous Uncrewed Systems Software.
• Experience developing modular, maintainable, production-quality autonomy software.
• Experience developing using C/C++, Python, and (optional but desired) relevant memory-safe languages.
• Experience with and/or understanding of modern software development tool chains and processes (Agile, git/Gitlab/Github, Confluence/Jira, CI/CD, Conan, SonarQube, automated test methodologies, etc.)
• Desired: Familiarity with DoD or other common robotics and datalink architecture standards (e.g. OMS/UCI, A-GRA, WOSA, FACE, DDS, ROS, STANAG 4586, J-Series, AFSIM, etc).
• Desired: Familiarity with AI robotic navigation and decision algorithms – path planning (A*, RRT), schedule optimization (Simulated Annealing, Genetic Algorithms, Tabu Search), distributed coordination algorithms
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with Linux-based development environments is highly desired.
• Must be able to effectively communicate orally and possess technical writing skills.
• Strong collaboration skills in multi-disciplinary autonomy, vehicle systems, and systems engineering teams.
• Must be able to work effectively as part of an integration-focused development team.
