The role ensures that components meet applicable drawing characteristics, specification, quality and purchase-order requirements before approval for production use.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
• Review supplier First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) for completeness, accuracy, traceability and compliance with company and customer requirements.
• Review ballooned drawings to ensure all applicable dimensions, tolerances, drawing notes and specifications are correctly identified and captured in the FAIR.
• Verify inspection results, inspection methods and measuring equipment to ensure they are appropriate and accurately reflect the specified requirements.
• Review supporting documentation, including material certificates, Certificates of Conformance, special-process certificates, test reports and calibration records.
• Conduct physical, dimensional and visual verification of First Article parts where required, including critical or high-risk characteristics.
• Approve or reject FAIR submissions, clearly communicate discrepancies and ensure all outstanding issues and non-conformances are satisfactorily addressed before approval.
• Raise and follow up on non-conformances and verify supplier corrective actions before approval.
• Coordinate FAI priorities, submission schedules and outstanding FAIRs with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate FAI records and escalate delayed, repeatedly rejected or high-risk submissions.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in First Article Inspection, mechanical inspection, supplier quality, manufacturing quality or precision engineering.
• Experience reviewing FAIRs and inspecting precision-machined components, sheet-metal parts, fabricated parts or mechanical assemblies.
• Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, drawing notes, revisions and GD&T.
• Good understanding of FAI requirements, inspection methods and measurement equipment.
• Familiar with material certificates, Certificates of Conformance, special-process certificates, test reports and calibration records.
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, sheet-metal fabrication, welding, coating, plating, anodising and mechanical assembly.
